Glass Mat 101 - Chemistry

Pete Wallace; President, Pete Wallace, LLC.

This course is designed to give an overview of the chemistries and interactions in the production of wet formed Nonwoven fiber glass mat for technical and non-technical personnel. This course will provide an overview of chemical components that are used in glass production and how these components interact to affect the processing variables, binder cure and mat properties. Particular attention will be given to inherent variations in the chemistry and process that results in seasonal, daily and shift variations in mat properties and quality.

This is intended to be an introduction for new engineers, supervisors and operators that wish to understand the wet formed fiberglass mat process better. It is also a valuable review for experienced technical personnel, engineers, supervisors and managers who wish to look at their production process through renewed perspective. Non-technical personnel in the industry (purchasing, sales, marketing) will gain new perspective and insight into this process and the intricacies in making acceptable production mat.
