Barry Morris
Barry Morris has 30 years of experience in the packaging
industry, holding a variety of application development, R&D and new business development roles in DuPont's Ethylene Copolymer business. In 2019, he became part of the new DOW company as DOW spun off from DOWDUPONT. He first became a member of TAPPI almost 30 years ago. He is the recipient of the International Flexible Packaging and Extrusion Division’s Technical Award and serves on the Division’s Products and Resources Team.
Barry is a contributing author of several chapters in the “Extrusion Coating Manual, Fifth Edition” as well as the “Film Extrusion Manual, Third Edition.” He has also presented at multiple TAPPI International Flexible Packaging and Extrusion Conferences and has won several best paper awards. Barry has a broad knowledge of packaging materials, film fabrication methods and packaging applications from his work developing adhesion polymers and sealants for the market. With over 100 publications and 11 patents, he excels at applying scientific principles to complex technical issues and explaining it in a way that the practitioner can understand and use.
1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I have written and presented papers at TAPPI and other conferences throughout my career, so writing a chapter for the Extrusion Coating Manual was a natural progression.
2. What is your work schedule like when you’re writing for a TAPPI publication?
I generally keep my same work schedule and fit writing on top of it.
3. What advice do you have for anyone considering writing for a TAPPI publication?
Everyone has knowledge that others can benefit from so don’t be afraid to share yours. Even if your work is highly proprietary, there are often nuggets of fundamental knowledge that your company will allow you to share. Companies should recognize there is value in publishing in terms of company recognition and personal development. When it comes time to write, don’t procrastinate and have colleagues read over the material you have written for clarity.
